bike the blossoms

Saturday, April 19, 2008 9 am – 4 pm

New to the 2008 Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival will be BIKE THE BLOSSOMS, a Slow Cycle event brought to you by SLOWFOOD VANCOUVER!

Picture a convivial citywide spring event with cyclists fanning across Westside to Eastside, riding under fragrant pink canopies of cherry blossoms...

This event fosters Slow Food’s philosophy of Good, Clean & Fair       while bringing a very active, tasty, fun and beautiful experiential awareness to our city. We want to have Vancouverites, Lower Mainland residents, our American neighbours, and tourists, to slowly cycle, taste and discover Vancouver’s “other” unknown neighbourhoods that they normally would not see. It will be a self-guided tour where cyclists go at their leisure with family, friends and visitors while partaking of tasty food and drinks along breathtaking routes.

HighLights

Last August, Slow Food Vancouver (SFV) introduced urban dwellers (400 cyclists!) to many rural producers in the successful Slow Food Cycle Farm Tour in Agassiz.  For the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival SFV will bring rural producers to the city on the day of the event where cyclists can taste and purchase their artisan foods. City bike route maps highlighting peak Kanzan cherry blossom viewing will feature excellent Slow Food selected refueling stops at various eateries, cafes, bakeries, coffee and tea places.  This event encourages conviviality through the connection of People, Food, and Slow and promotes our City’s biking lanes while encouraging “green and clean”.

Treasure hunts . . . prizes to die for!  You will be sorry if you don’t join in at least one.

Information regarding BIKE the BLOSSOMS leading up to April 19th will be ongoing on the Slow Food Vancouver website.  Participants are required to register.  Check in often for event details!
